MOTIVATED REASONING

“Optic devises are all lens and mirrors, pulling one away from their desired and acute point of observation”. The installation Motivated Reasoning considers the mechanics of microscopic observation; focussing on the instruments imbued ideology and the observer’s role.

Chemist and author E.C. Large coined the term, 'breeding culture' with reference to scientific observation. In using it, he underlines how humans control and benefit from a ‘culture’ bred to adhere to existent scientific standards, standards that render the observer subservient to their observation instruments.

This installation was informed by the chemist and author E.C. Large’s fictional novel and produced in collaboration with EPFL, Lausanne.
